Llandybie tennis club has won game set and match after returning to the town’s tennis courts for the first time since the pandemic.

The recently refurbished courts saw the men losing at home to Llantwit Major on Friday night as they played under spotlight while the ladies’ strode to victory against a strong team from David Lloyd Swansea earlier last month.

“It’s fantastic to see the club back in action again after such a long break but it’s even more fantastic to be able to come along and join them every Tuesday evening,” said player Matthew Bowden. “I used to play tennis in Cae Gurwen but when they took the courts away and replaced them with astroturf, it left us with nowhere to go.”

Each of the three Llandybie courts have been refurbished with an up-to-the-minute hard surface, and night-time play can take place thanks to some excellent the court lighting.

The mixed night takes place every Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm and everyone is invited to just turn up and play, regardless of their age and ability.

“It’s absolutely great to be back on the courts again and we’re keen to welcome everyone on board, both old and new faces, to have a hit,” commented club coach Matthew Davies. “The other day I was saw out on the courts twice in the same week so I must be getting the tennis bug back good and proper.”

Llandybie Tennis Club is conveniently situated on Woodfield Road, near to the Rugby Club.
