With benefit claimant numbers in Carmarthenshire down by 18 per cent compared with this time last year, the county’s Jocbentres are working to encourage the over-50s to find a role in the workplace.

No Desire to Retire sessions are being held at Ammanford Jobcentre.

This is a six-week employability course which focuses on people over 50 or those who have been out of work due to ill health.

It aims to support customers overcome barriers in relation to health conditions and offer advice with private, state and pension credits.

Regular recruitment days and events are being held by DWP Jocbentres, with thousands of jobs on offer on the DWP FindaJob website.

In Carmarthenshire the DWP, through the three Jobcentres, continues to support many local and national employers in a variety of sectors.

Meanwhile, work coaches provide every jobseeker with tailored support.

This month, DWP staff have supported a number of employers looking for staff in Carmarthenshire.

These include:

  • Accomplish Care Homes, which needed to fill a support worker vacancy in Cildewi House and Studio apartments in Johnstown
  • Avon Cosmetics, who held a recruitment event in Carmarthen Jobcentre to promote their sales leaders and sales representatives vacancies and undertake interviews.
  • Roger & Son Butchers, who needed to fill their retail butcher position.
  • Carmarthenshire County Council, which held an open day aimed at filling seasonal recreation vacancies in locations including Pembrey and Pendine. Ongoing help is also being given to fill their council’s recycling and refuse crews vacancies.
  • Atlantis Ice Cream & Café, Burry Port, who are recruiting for a part-time café assistant.
  • Jolleys Pet Store, Llanelli, which has sales assistant and supervisor vacancies.
  • Nando’s restaurant in Llanelli is recruiting for both full-time and part-time team members and Screwfix, Hardware store, in Llanelli is seeking a permanent part-time retail assistant.
  • DWP staff are supporting Iceland supermarket in Ammanford to help fill their seasonal retail assistant vacancies and Boots retail store are recruiting for a part-time customer advisor.
  • Both Llanelli and Carmarthen Jobcentres are supporting the Co-op in Kidwelly to fill their part-time customer team members.
  • Carmarthen Jobcentre is also supporting McDonalds, Carmarthen, in recruiting their overnight shift crew members.
