The latest employment facts and statistics for Wales, Carmarthenshire and Ammanford have been released by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Across Wales:

  • The number of people employed is at 1.448 million
  • The employment rate (16-64) is at 72.2 per cent
  • The number of people unemployed is at 54,000, which is down 2,000 on the year
  • The unemployment rate is at 3.6 per cent, which shows a decrease of 0.1 per cent on the year
  • The number of people in workless households has fallen since April to June 2010 by 92,000

In Carmarthenshire DWP, through the three Jobcentres, continues to support many local and national employers in a variety of sectors.

The latest figures from central government shows there is a reduction of 20 per cent in the number of Carmarthenshire benefit claimants since this time last year.

The people at Ammanford Jobcentre have been working with Fieldbay, a mental health service, to help fill their vacancies for an activities/care assistant carer/driver position.

The Ammanford Jobcentre, as well as the branch in Carmarthen, has also been supporting ITS Construction to seek a full time labourers to work on the Persimmon Homes development in Cross Hands and on works at Glangwilli Hospital.

Ameena’s Indian Restaurant and Leeks Department Store are two other local businesses helped by the Ammanford Jobcentre in filling vacancies.

Unfortunately, there have been 40 redundancies at Plas Y Bryn Nursing Home in Cwmgwili.

The DWP have been offering full support for the ReAct funding which those personnel who have been made redundant will be able to access.

For those affected, they should contact their local Jobcentre and Careers Wales for more information.

The town’s Jobcentre recently hosted group sessions aimed specifically for the administration officer vacancies based in the pension service.

This month has also seen the launch of the ‘No Desire To Retire’ session at Ammanford JCP.

This employability course is run over a six-week period, aimed to enhance skills of customers aged 50 or over, as well as apply for jobs and promote local live vacancies.

The course is also aimed to support customers overcome barriers in relation to health conditions and offer advice with private, state and pension credits.

Ammanford Jobcentre also launched a similar course called ‘Tik Tok to Work’, a six-week employability skills enhancing course is aimed at 18–30-year-olds.
