PUPILS in Ystradgynlais are celebrating their GCSE and BTEC results today.

Ysgol Maesydderwen’s year 11 pupils sat their GCSE exams for the first time since 2019.

Notable successes from the school this year includes Keira Hemsley and Seren Rees who both achieved nine A8, two A and one B grades.

Tavian James, Hannah Petherick and Olivia Perrott both achieved eight A* and four A grades.

Tyler Kelly was awarded seven A* and six A grades. Leon Cook, Jordan Darshan, Imogen Robson all had five A*, six A and one B grades and Abbey Newton received five A*, five A and two B grades.

Headteacher Mr Grimes said: “I am exceptionally proud of our learners on all their success today. The hard-work, commitment and resilience from learners, parents/carers and staff has resulted in these exceptional examination results and I am delighted for each and every one of our learners.

“A special thanks must also go to the teaching staff whose commitment to support the learners captures the essence of what makes Ysgol Maesydderwen so very special and our learners so successful.”

Powys County Council has congratulated all students in the county – including those at Ysgol Maesydderwen – on their results.

Cllr Pete Roberts, cabinet member for a Learning Powys, said: “We send out warmest congratulations to our pupils who have received their GCSE and Level 2 qualification results today.

“We recognise the challenges faced by both learners and schools, including the transition back to examinations for the first time in three years. Which means we’re extremely proud of the achievements of all our learners and are delighted to hear the stories of their success.

“We want to thank everyone at schools who have supported their learners through their exams and also thank the families who have played a vital role in supporting and encouraging their children throughout their education.
