Ammanford travelled to Trebanos with hopes of a positive result but this, however, was not to be the case. A scrum that struggled and some unusually poor handling allowed a close game to slip away.

Ammanford’s best chances came in the first half. Without a score on the board the visitors opened up the home defence on two occasions and on both the ball was dropped 5m from the line and no defender in sight. At the end of the half a break by flanker Jed Anthony found skipper Alex davies in support only for the scrum half to be penalised for holding on in the shadow of the home posts.

The Trebanos pack dominated in the scrum and this eventually gave them the lead when awarded a penalty. The strength of the home pack finally won through when capitalizing on a driving maul their scrumhalf sniped over for a try.

Ammanford kept running the ball and from a kick out of defence wing Elis Lewis gathered and went on a run only to be tackled in midfield the recycled ball was quickly moved out and found the ever-willing wing Ceri Rees, Deceptively quick Rees rounded the home outside half and scootered the remaining 40m to the line untouched. Ryan Williams added the conversion to make it a one-point game, 8 – 7.

This was an evenly balanced game and could have gone either way, the only blemish being the behaviour of the home outside half, which was missed by the referee. Trebanos were awarded a late penalty and with the last kick of the game the lead was extended to 11 – 7.

Final score: Trebanos 11 – 7 Ammanford.
