Llandybie came up against a strong Cefneithin side in this local derby game. With two late withdrawals the hosts had to make a number of positional changes.

The visitors threw the ball wide from the start and found themselves two tries ahead after fifteen minutes due to some poor tackling by the hosts. Jordan Tommason and veteran prop Dai Lloyd made good carries and full back Wayne Williams counter attacked down the right wing. With the pack arriving with some good rucking Greg Thompson scored a try out wide. The hosts lost prop Garin Criddle with a knee injury and had to re-jig the pack with Cefn applying more pressure.

Rhys Jones and Iestyn Richards tried to get their backs going but with Steff Jones and Ioan Rees playing out of position at centre it was very difficult. Cefn missed two penalties but scored a try just before half time with their centre getting through four tacklers to touch down and lead 21 – 5 at half time.

Llandybie came out with a more attacking attitude in the second half and forced two penalties. Captain Tommason took a quick tap on the second one to force his way over with three tacklers hanging on, Richards added the extras and kicked another penalty soon after to bring the hosts within six points.

Llandybie were caught trying to run out of defence to concede a converted try. The hosts never gave up with Judson Van Dellen, Steff Jones, Daf Evans and Ioan Rees working hard to contain the Cefneithin rushes. Steffan Thomas and Ethan Walters made some decent carries and Rhydian Jones came off his wing looking for work, but Cefn scored two late tries to run out comfortable winners by 40 points to 15. Llandybie will have to sharpen up the tackle area as this let them down badly in this match although they did well with so many players out of position. Next week Llandybie are away to Furnace.
