CWMAMMAN United FC will not start their season in the Ardal South West League, after the Football Association of Wales announced that all football in tier three would be cancelled.

With no start date, and still no League football played due to coronavirus restrictions, it was also decided to cancel the Cymru Premier Development League, FAW Reserve League and FAW Youth League.

On a local level, the Carmarthenshire Football League and the Neath and District Football League had already taken the decision last month to cancel their seasons, with immediate effect.

The FAW is still hoping that the two second tier leagues, the Cymru North and the Cymru South - which includes Ammanford, Carmarthen Town and Llanelli - can resume action on 20 March.

The second tier clubs have not had an opportunity to start their league campaigns, after going into lockdown, with only some first round fixtures of the Nathaniel MG Cup being completed.

It is also hoped that the Cymru Premier, which is at a more advanced stage, and the Welsh Premier Women's League can resume in early March, subject to Welsh Government guidelines.

The aim is to stage the Welsh Cup between 20 April and 5 June, with only the 44 teams from tiers one and two, and to complete the Nathaniel MG Cup and Women's Premier League Cup.

“The FAW fully understands the frustrations felt by many throughout the country of not being able to play, volunteer and support their clubs,” said an FAW statement.

“However, these are unprecedented times, and the FAW is not responsible for the national COVID-19 policies and guidelines, which are in place to keep the nation as safe as possible.

“The FAW is exploring a number of options for the 2021/22 season to ensure that competitive football can resume as quickly as possible.

“Finally, the FAW has decided that, should the Welsh Government Alert Levels change before the end of the season, 31 May - as detailed in the FAW Rules, clubs would be permitted to request the sanction of friendly matches.

“Further details on this will be distributed to the Area Associations, Leagues and Clubs by the FAW Competitions Department.”
