WRU Division 3B West

Amman United - 26

Trimsaran - 0

AMMAN United returned to the top of the table, at the expense of Tumble, with a dominant bonus point victory over old foes Trimsaran.

Amman dominated the first half, especially up front, where the Trim pack was always on the back foot.

In attritional conditions, Rhys Phillips and Alun Lewis put in some monster early tackles, but after just ten minutes, following a mass dust-up and melee near the stand, the referee brandished two red cards as Amman centre Rhodri Lewis and the visitors’ prop were both sent off.

Shortly after, Trim were reduced further to 13 after another yellow card, and United took full advantage as scrum half Alex Williams sniped over for a 23rd minute try.

Amman deservedly led 7-0 after Joel Foster’s excellent conversion into the wind, but they missed a hatful of other good openings as Dan Jones was halted inches short, and Alex Williams then put Thorneycroft into space, but he couldn’t finish off.

Hoping not to rue those earlier missed chances, Amman kicked off the second half in worsening conditions and a biblical hailstorm; Craig Ratcliff, Dylan James,Ceri Jones and Talfan Alcock provided fresh legs in sapping ground as Amman continued to dominate.

After several dominant United scrummages, the away pack cracked and the pressure told as sub Dylan James crashed over for the young prop’s first ever senior try.

Foster converted and with ten minutes left, further good play near the away tryline provided the platform for wing Jac Evans to finish off in the corner.

With minutes remaining,Amman snatched a bonus point when the outstanding Alun Lewis’ late surge put in Tom Thorneycroft for the score.
