Welsh League Division One

Goytre – 0

Ammanford – 4

AMMANFORD bounced back from last week’s derby day disappointment against Cwmamman United with an impressive performance at Goytre.

Goals from Cameron Isaac and Ricky Martin, and a brace from Mathew Jones gave the visitors a 4-0 victory.

Ammanford were on top from the first minute to the last in this Welsh League Division One encounter, and they thought they had taken the lead after 15 minutes.

The visitors had managed to get the ball into the back of the net but were denied the goal by the linesman’s flag.

Liam Samuel then had a snapshot that went inches wide of the post, and Martin struck a fierce effort that rattled the woodwork as Ammanford continued to press.

The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes as Jones got in behind the defence and finished tidily to make it 1-0.

And he had his brace shortly after the break, tucking home a rebound to give his and his side’s tally for the game.

Goytre finally showed some attacking threat early in the second half, but Ammanford goalkeeper, Craig Morris was on hand to make a number of saves in a five-minute wave of pressure.

Not only did Morris’ side stand firm, they grabbed a third on the break through a quality goal from Martin.

Not letting up, Ammanford continued to push forward in search of a fourth.

Both Samuel and Mathew Fisher had shots blocked, before Fisher forced a superb save from Fisher as he broke clear.

There would be another goal for Ammanford however, in the form of substitute Isaac, who, after coming on the 80th minute, tapped home the goal with his first touch.

The win, Ammanford’s first of the season, moves them out of the relegation zone at the bottom of the table.

On Friday, Ammanford travel to Taffs Well before they visit Haverfordwest the following week, where the club will be putting on a bus for fans.
