League Three West B
Penybanc 8 Llandeilo 12
Division Three West B has thrown up any number of tough derbies for Llandeilo this year and Saturday’s clash at Penybanc was no exception.
Both teams were on a high from significant victories the previous week, Banc posting a thumping win against Bangor in the Swalec Bowl and Llandeilo regaining Towy Valley bragging rights over Llangadog in the league.
The home team were more prominent in the early stages and opened the scoring with a penalty, but Llandeilo hit back when Chris Owens was on hand to finish off from centre partner Bradley Nicholls’s searing break.
Banc came back even more strongly and their forwards rolled over in the corner for a half time 8-5 lead.
As has happened so often in a very competitive division this season, it seemed one score would separate the teams and, although Penybanc’s strong running backs caused the visitors’ defence no end of problems and came close to crossing more than once, Llandeilo created the only score of the second half.
Young outside half Steffan Roberts found himself in acres of space out on the right and went over comfortably for Owain Roberts to convert.
The four-point gap ensured Banc needed a try to win and they threw everything into attack in the feisty closing stages, but Deilo’s excellent defence held firm to claim the club’s first double of the season.
