LLANDOVERY have a golden chance of reaching the last eight of the Konica Minolta Cup when they entertain Caerphilly at Church Bank this Saturday, writes Huw S Thomas.

The Drovers can put the cares and woes of the Principality Premiership behind them as they try to defeat a side that is no more than mid-table in the Asda League Division One East.

The Cheesemen have won seven and lost eight of their 15 matches and lie in seventh position in a division led by Newbridge.

Caerphilly and St Peter's are the only two non-Premiership clubs left in the Cup.

The Cardiff club created the greatest shock in the 35-year history of the Cup when they beat Cardiff 16-14 at the Arms Park in 1993.

But they look to have little chance of getting the better of Bridgend at the Brewery Field.

Caerphilly will travel to Church Bank with far more hope but Llandovery are expected to put out their very strongest side in a determined effort to force their way into the quarter-finals.

If they can get through on Saturday, the Drovers will only be two games away from the Millennium Stadium, which is scheduled to host the final in April.

Most of the home sides will be fancied to make a clean sweep of things on Saturday with perhaps Bedwas - at Glamorgan Wanderers - and Aberavon - at Cross Keys - capable of getting the away wins.
