Carmarthenshire League Reserve Division Two

Ammanford 5 Felinfoel 1

With league form at a high, Ammanford’s young side retained their place at the top of the league courtesy of a comfortable victory over Felinfoel, which included an Elgan Griffiths hat-trick and two red cards.

The game started evenly with the visitors seeing a few chances saved by goalkeeper Hedd-Wyn Jones. Despite being under pressure, the hosts took the lead through winger Griffiths, who finished calmly following Owain Jones' flick on.

With the goal lead, Ammanford continued to press and got a second through Jake Webb who was picked out masterfully by Lloyd Bevan.

Ammanford’s game-plan seemed to be undone when Jones was dismissed for handling outside the area, but - despite being down to ten - Ammanford stood firm for the remainder of the half with defenders Jack Conway, Josh Davies, Dylan Thomas and Matt Warnes providing a solid foundation for the team.

Ammanford went into the interval 2-0.

The hosts started the second half with increased intensity and extended their lead when Griffiths broke through the defence to notch his second.

Ammanford were awarded a penalty when Gavin Thomas was fouled in the box following a mazy run and the referee levelled the numbers when he showed the culprit a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

The spot kick was confidently despatched by striker Nathan Spowart for his first goal for Ammanford.

The fifth goal came soon after when Griffiths sealed his hat-trick with a great finish following good work up front by Mikey Fuller.

Ammanford brought on Aled Denning who was threatening for the last stages of the game but saw his best chance go just wide.

Felinfoel got a consolation at the end but the game fizzled out with both sides tiring.

Ammanford remain top of the league and visit Pembrey next week.
