Morgan Finance Millennium Plate Final
Newcastle Emlyn 34 Brynamman 12
The final match of the Llanelli District Rugby Union calendar took place at Nantgaredig on Saturday where Newcastle Emlyn ran out 34-12 winners over Brynamman in the Morgan Finance Millennium Plate final.
“I can honestly say that it was one of the best finals we have had for many years,” said competition sponsor Wyndham Morgan.
“The players on both sides were a credit to their clubs and produced a highly entertaining game for everyone on the touchline,”
Emlyn led throughout the match, their opening try coming midway through the first half when centre Matthew James broke through a determined Brynamman defence for an unconverted score.
Wing Barry Morgan and evergreen prop Barry Evans added further tries for Emlyn, both of which were converted by wing Gareth Phillips - but not before flanker Joel Spurway opened the scoring with a try for Brynamman.
The Amman Valley side further cut the deficit to 19-12 by half-time after fly-half Josh Ferryman danced his way through the opposition defence for an excellent individual try, converted by centre Lee Evans.
The second half however belonged to Emlyn who were not to be denied after wing Morgan crossed for his second followed by touchdowns from prop Niki Williams, who deservedly won the man of the match award, and centre Owain Francis.
Brynamman didn’t leave the match empty handed and were presented with the All Wales Sport Division Three league trophy by Alun West, one of the Llaneli District’s Life Members and a Past President.
