PLANS to change the use of an Ammanford building have been rejected by Carmarthenshire County Council.

Sean Jones had submitted plans to make alterations to 9-11 College Street, Ammanford, the former home of Barclays Bank.

The alterations would have seen the currently disused building’s ground floor turned from the A2 bank into B1 office space and A1 retail. The residential flat (C1) upstairs would also have been turned into a D1 creche.

There were also plans for new shop frontage and refurbishment throughout the building.

On September 6, the council refused the plans stating that the proposed development would have an adverse impact on the special character of the listed building internally.

This was due to the proposed internal renovations including the removal of ‘a substantial amount of the existing fabric’ and there was ‘very little information on the nature of the existing or justification for the proposed’ provided as part of the application.
