Neath (147-9) beat Ammanford (146) by 1 wkt

Ammanford failed by a single wicket to win a nail-biting, low scoring relegation battle against Neath at the Gnoll.

In their first game for six weeks, a rain-rusted Ammanford elected to bat first against a Neath side which had to win to retain any chance of staying up.

Ammanford lost two of their main run-getters – Kurtis Marsh and Xavier Clarke - cheaply, but stands between Alun Evans (26) and Gruffudd Owen, then Owen (38) and Rhys Huw Davies (34), took their score past the century mark.

Of the remaining batters, only tail-ender Matthew Davies (10) managed to get close to double figures.

Ammanford were all out for 146 in the 47th over.

Aaron Davies and R D Edwards took three wickets each for Neath.

With both Neath openers back in the shed and just three on the board, Ammanford's earlier total began to look respectable, but the remainder of Neath's batsmen refused to give way so easily.

Wickets were falling regularly, but runs were also being accumulated, not least thanks to the 28 extras mainly from wide deliveries.

The match was heading for a nerve jangling finish, but a solid anchor knock from Neath captain Joe Parkhouse (20no), together with a crucial 19 from number 10 Aizaz Ahmed was enough to take Neath over the line by a single wicket.

Owen Davies was chief wicket taker with 3 for 44, and Alun Evans and Kurtis Marsh picked up a couple each.

Next week's final fixture of this rain-ruined season will decide which club will be relegated along with already doomed Port Talbot Town.

Ammanford, currently 7th, travel to St Helens to take on top dogs Swansea who will be chasing the title after coming second last season. Six points from this fixture will ensure Ammanford's Premier 1 status for next season.

Fellow strugglers Neath in 9th place visit Newport, whilst Ynystawe in 8th visit relegated Port Talbot.

AMMANFORD SECONDS won an exciting match against Dafen at the Park by 14 runs.

Ammanford scored 193 all out, thanks mainly to Llyr Morgan (51) and Josh Davies (49).

For Dafen, Harry Randell took three wickets.

Dafen batted solidly, their main scorers being Richard Thorne (43) and Jake Thorne (30), but three wickets each for man of the match Llyr Morgan, Callum Croft and Jacob Williams saw the visitors all out for 179, 14 short of their target.

AMMANFORD THIRDS went down to a heavy 69 run defeat at Briton Ferry Town.

Briton Ferry scored 151 all out thanks to an unbeaten 40 from Balakrishnen.

Alfie Davies took 3 wickets for the visitors.

Ammanford's reply never got going, and despite a fighting 27 from John Jones, their innings crumbled to 82 all out in the final over.

Man of the match Balakrishnen took 3 for 11.
