Ammanford Cricket Club's long wait for a victory at St Fagans continued as they went down by a convincing 8 wickets to remain in the South Wales Premier One relegation zone.

Acting captain Rhys Huw Davies elected to bat first on a firm, bone-dry wicket, and was rewarded by a sprightly start of 53 for the opening wicket between Rhodri Huw Davies (22) and Saihaj Jaspal (37).

The middle order of Xavier Clarke (41), Fahad Sabir (26) and Rhys Huw Davies (12) took Ammanford to a promising 152 for 4, but once again nobody was able to stay in long enough to impose a match-winning innings.

And with the exit of the middle order, Ammanford's long tail was inevitably exposed. The last six wickets fell for a meagre 35 runs.

Rhodri Lewis and Rahul Chawathe picked up three wickets each for the home side.

With Ammanford all out for 187, unable once again to last their allocated 50 overs, the rain arrived during the tea interval.

Unfortunately for Ammanford, it cleared up to allow St Fagans to face a revised target of 176 from the reduced 43 overs.

Despite losing an early wicket to the bowling of Saihaj Jaspal, St Fagans set about their task without fuss, and the wet ball did not help Ammanford's bowlers.

Former Ammanford player Jack Murphy (96) and Jeremy Lawlor (64) put on 159 for the first wicket, the sort of stand that Ammanford have so desperately been in need of this season.

Murphy fell just 4 short of his century, stumped off the bowling of Callum Croft, but St Fagans reached their target inside 30 overs, with time and wickets aplenty to spare.

The win took St Fagans to the top of Premier 1, whilst Ammanford remain just 1 point ahead of bottom placed Port Talbot Town, a gap of 14 points opening up between the bottom two and those above.

Next, Ammanford are at home to Cardiff.

Ammanford Seconds lost a closely contested match by two wickets against visitors Swansea at the Park.

Batting first, Ammanford were all out for 154, thanks to a fine anchoring innings of 64 from keeper Cellan Allcock.

Opening bowler Iwan Matthews (3-30) made early inroads to Swansea's reply, which looked shaky at 45 for 4.

However, a middle order stand of 54 between Thomas Haden (43no) and Lawrence Crowney (30) swung the match Swansea's way, and despite losing further wickets, they were able to close out the game with two wickets to spare.

Ammanford Thirds lost a high scoring thriller at Dyffryn by three wickets in the final over.

A second wicket stand of 153 between Toby Davies (91) and George Williams (77) defined Ammanford's innings, whilst an unbeaten 33 from tailender Steve Murfitt helped take the total to an impressive 245 all out.

Jack Stanton was Dyffryn top bowler with 3 for 54.

In reply, Dyffryn opener Giles Hayes batted patiently for an anchor role of 71 runs, but Ammanford looked to be in control until an unbeaten 47 from Craig Thomas turned the tables in Dyffryn's favour, the winning run coming in the final over.

Sion Davies and Jac Cox-Lloyd took a couple of wickets each for Ammanford.
