A 53-YEAR-old disabled Ammanford motorcycle enthusiast, frustrated that the festive snow had kept him out the saddle, abused police officers with a late-night tirade after getting drunk at a town social club.

Geoffrey David Goodenough, of 1 Heol Llwchwr, was arrested at 12.30am on December 22 after he became aggressive towards officers on Ammanford’s Wind Street.

Ammanford magistrates were told how a concerned member of the public had contacted the police after seeing a drunken man falling over in the rear car park of the Welfare Club.

When the officers arrived at the scene, Goodenough had disappeared.

He was later found in a drunken state outside the town’s Careers Office.

When spoken to by the officers, Goodenough became increasingly aggressive, foul-mouthed and abusive.

Following his arrest, Goodenough continued ranting at the officers at Llanelli Police Station.

Nick Devonald, defending, told the court that Goodenough was deeply embarrassed at the language he had used and the behaviour he had displayed.

Mr Devonald told the court that Goodenough had not been inside a pub for more than three years prior to the incident.

"He is currently taking medication that should not be mixed with alcohol," said Mr Devonald.

"He has a great interest and enthusiasm in motorcycles, but due to the weather at the time he had not been able to go out on his bike so for some reason he went to the pub, but he was not used to it.

"He promises that this behaviour will not be repeated ever again."

Goodfenough pleaded guilty to a charge of using threatening words and behaviour that was likely to alarm or distress.

Magistrates granted Goodenough a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered he pay £85 court costs.
