Division 5 West

Ammanford RFC 37 Hendy RFC 17

A bad defensive error by Ammanford let in Hendy for a simple try in the first minute with prop Steve Jones crossing near the posts for outside half Peter Rees to convert.

Scrum half Alan Davies hit back within minutes, a tap penalty set him clear for a 40m run in under the posts. Outside half Simon Davies converted to square the game at 7-7.

Outside halves Rees and Davies exchanged penalties making the score 10-10. Games between the sides have always been a high scoring affair and this was the case again.

Outside half Davies put the home side ahead with a well taken try but missed the simple conversion 15-10. Again Hendy came back and from a forward attack prop Peter Watts powered over with outside half Rees converting for a half time lead to Hendy 15-17.

Ammanford's late season has been impressive and with the pack taking charge the three-quarters showed their class, a combined move started by open side flanker Lyn James, saw full back Dylan Howells enter the line for a well executed try, Davies converted 22-17.

The home side's next try was a classic, quick handling by the threes in their own 22m sent young winger Ryan Davies away on a 60m run and a brilliant try near the posts. Davies converted for a 29-17 lead.

Hendy came back at Ammanford after the usual substitutions, but the defence held firm and outside half and captain Simon Davies put over two late penalties to reach his 200 points for the season.

The final result of 35-17 was a well earned 14th victory of the season for Ammanford.
