Cwmgors 68 Pembroke DQ 10

Lloyds TSB National League Div6 (West)

Cwmgors have clinched the title with an emphatic victory at Parc y Werin.

Demonstrating the entertaining, running rugby that has brought them so much success this season, they put on quite a show for the delighted home supporters.

Cwm ran everything, Phil Sparrow's early try setting the pace, before Geraint Evans' long pass two minutes later found wing Andrew 'Browsy' Davies, who sped in for a corner try.

Quins retaliated with a penalty, but back came 'Gors, Evans again running from deep to find Andrew Davies, who finished neatly.

From the restart, Kev Windsor's diagonal kick and Lee Howells' pressure on the full-back forced a line out. Evans found Windsor who broke an attempted tackle and sprinted in to score after 20 minutes.

Phil Sparrow's break then saw him tackled short of the line, but he flipped a try scoring pass to outstanding flanker Clyde Morgan, who gratefully accepted to score under the posts.

Cwm were now playing 'sunshine sevens' rugby. With Evans orchestrating, hooker John Williams took the chance to find a gap and finish off a well worked try himself. Geraint Evans ran some 50 yards for an excellent solo try and a half-time lead of 39-3.

In the second half, Phil Sparrow side-stepped neatly to re-open the scoring, before a tap penalty and good support from Clyde Morgan and Roger Bugler ended with Jamie Bradley diving over for a corner score. Geraint Evans went in for his hat-trick and an Andrew Davies chip then led to a further Clyde Morgan try.

Cwmgors play Penygroes (home) on Saturday, May 10, before Llanelli Wanderers (home) on May 17.
