A GORSLAS man hurled a torrent of unprovoked abuse at an Ammanford police inspector who was patrolling alone in an unmarked car, a court has heard.

Howell John Williams, of 45 Brynlleni, asked Insp Paul Lewis where all of his mates were and warned him never to enter a pub in which he was having a pint after the pair crossed paths in Waterloo Road, Capel Hendre, on September 13.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told Ammanford magistrates that the 28-year-old’s behaviour was so shocking that two members of the public were forced to intervene.

She said: “When the defendant saw Insp Lewis he said ‘Where are all your mates now?’ in a reference to when he was previously arrested.

“He also told him never to enter a pub where he was drinking and said: ‘If I’m found dead in the morning, its your fault.’ Williams, who pleaded guilty and represented himself in court said: “I’m sorry for my actions that night. I had been drinking.”

Magistrates said they had taken considerable time to discuss the case.

“One thing that is going in your favour is that you have pleaded guilty,” they said.

“On the other side, the fact you choose to argue with a policeman is very much against you.

“Its also against you that that you were told to stop but you carried on, causing two members of the public to step in,” they said.

Williams was fined £265 and ordered to pay £75 costs with a £15 victim surcharge.
