FLANAGAN and Allen sang about dreaming their dreams away underneath the arches.

But Llandovery town councillor Robin Ennion is experiencing nothing but headaches over the arches underneath Llandovery Market Hall.

Mr Ennion, the town’s postmaster, has grown increasingly exasperated by what he maintains are the erratic times the lights that illuminate the ancient building switch on.

He admits he is fed up of reporting the matter to the county council, who have speculated that someone has been tampering with the timer.

“Underneath the arches is still a nightmare,” he told fellow town councillors.

“A team from S4C’s Wedi Saith turned up for a live broadcast recently and I had to tell them I didn’t know when the lights were coming on.

“I said they seemed to be activated at 11pm and remained on until 12 the next morning - it was pretty embarrassing to say the least.

“I think it’s incompetent that the county council cannot get someone to sort this out.”

Members have complained about what they regard as the waste of electricity but town clerk Terry Leyman admitted he had also grown weary of reporting the matter to County Hall.

“They say there’s nothing wrong and to be honest I don’t know what else I can do,” he said.

After the meeting, Cllr Ennion said he was concerned about the possibility the lights would not be working when Santa Claus arrived for the town’s Christmas festivities.

“All the county council can come up with is to accuse us of fiddling about with the time clock,” he added.

However, the county council have again pledged to try to shed some light on the matter.

Works manager Lyn Rowlands said: “We will carry out a full investigation and hope to get it resolved within the next two weeks.”
