A Capel Hendre park renovation project has moved a step forward.

Llandybie Community Council and Carmarthenshire County Council have initiated plans to regenerate Banc Y Draenen Park, beginning with the planting of an apple orchard.

The first tree was planted with students from Penygroes and Saron schools joining the chairperson of Llandybie Community Council.

This, alongside mixed tree and shrub planting, is part of phase one of the project which was shared with local primary schools along with an educational talk from Matthew Collinson, the local places for nature officer for Carmarthenshire.

The plan, also, involves council environment committee members, Cllr Griff Davies and Cllr Julian Tandy.

The second phase will involve the wider Capel Hendre community in a consultation exercise on further enhancements, which potentially includes a community garden, wild meadows and a dedicated nature area equipped with bird and bat boxes.

The public consultation on the Banc Y Draenen Park Project is expected in the coming weeks.
