The music of West Africa will be brought to the stage in Ystradgynlais.
Gambian musician, Suntou Susso, will perform on April 19 at The Welfare Ystradgynlais starting 8pm.
Born into the 700-year-old Griot tradition, Suntou is a talented kora player, a 22-stringed African harp-lute.
Recognised as a master at storytelling through music, much like ancient Welsh bards, Susso artfully weaves his culture's history and heritage into every note he plays.
There will be a stirring blend of traditional kora melodies intermixed with original compositions that celebrate life and culture.
Beyond solo concerts, Suntou has collaborated with the likes of jazz star Sarah-Jane Morris, guitarist Tony Remy, and opera maestro Pumeza Matshikiza.
In 2018, he shared the stage with Youssou N'Dour, the famed Senegalese musician, at the O2.
It is a rare chance to enjoy and experience West Africa's rich music culture in Ystradgynlais.
Besides his highly engaging performances in theatre venues, Susso had captivated festival-goers at the Hay Festival, Beyond the Border, and WOMAD to name a few.
Susso also demonstrates his commitment to the promotion and preservation of his culture with an educative approach, offering lively drumming and kora workshops for students in schools, colleges, and universities.
This also extends to his involvement in the Project African Experience for Black History Month.
Ticket prices start at £8 and can be bought at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais' website.
