A Carmarthenshire company has been celebrated for its work keeping people in their homes for as long as possible.

Delta Wellbeing has been recognised with the Putting People First Award for its support services, which enable older and vulnerable residents to live independently.

The award was given by the Great British Care Awards, a national initiative acknowledging excellence in the UK social care sector.

Delta Wellbeing offers a 24-hour community response service, dubbed the 'Blue Army'. Working in collaboration with Carmarthenshire County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board, the service provides domiciliary care, as well as other essential support to community residents.

The goal is to aid patients in either returning home from hospital or preventing unnecessary admissions.

A pioneering initiative, the response service stands as the first of its kind registered with Care Inspectorate Wales.

It assists patients in the transition from hospital to home, offering short-term care until reablement or long-term providers become available.

The team extends emergency social care support to families experiencing difficulties with caring for loved ones.

By providing services such as meal preparation, administration of medication, and grocery shopping, it helps individuals regain strength, independence, and ensure their prolonged stay at home.

Response manager Sarah Vaughan said: "We're thrilled that our community response team and hospital-based wellbeing officers together have been honoured with a prestigious national award for our commitment to putting people first."

She expressed immense pride in her team and their relentless work ethic, hailing the award as a testament to their 'unwavering' dedication.

She continued: “I would like to thank each and every member of our team for your passion, resilience, and dedication. This award is a reflection of your outstanding efforts, and I'm immensely proud to work alongside such amazing individuals. Congratulations.”

With ownership by Carmarthenshire County Council, Delta Wellbeing remains a local authority trading company.
