A MERCEDES driver who undertook an unmarked police car was found to have two faulty tyres.

Tyler Lavery, 20, of Heol Y Dryw in Rhoose, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court charged with careless driving and two offences of using a vehicle with the ply or cord exposed.

An unmarked police car was driving on the A48 dual carriageway from Pont Abraham towards Cross Hands on August 4. The officer was in lane two to overtake an HGV.

Lavery’s Mercedes was described as “travelling at speed” and “driving in close proximity” to the police car.

The defendant then undertook the police car, before accelerating back in to lane two – without indicating – and narrowly avoiding the HGV and the cars in lane two.

Lavery’s standard of driving was described as falling well below that of a reasonable and competent driver and he was deemed to have been driving without due care and attention.

It was also alleged that both of the front tyres of Lavery’s Mercedes had the ply or cord exposed on that date.

He pleaded guilty to each of the charges at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on March 27.

Lavery was fined a total of £444, and must pay £110 in costs and a £178 surcharge. He also received six points for careless driving and three points for the tyre charges.
