FORTY new electric vehicles are set to take to the roads in Carmarthenshire.

Carmarthenshire County Council has received £431,632 of funding from the Welsh Government to replace its front-line diesel vehicles with electric ones.

Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen, the cabinet member for climate change, decarbonisation and sustainability at Carmarthenshire County Council, described the move as “a step in the right direction”.

In total, 30 electric vans and 10 electric cars have been purchased and are due to soon be taking to the roads of Carmarthenshire.

Cllr Owen said: “This a step in the right direction for the county council in reducing the emissions of its fleet of service vehicles and I look forward to seeing our new electric vehicles deployed across the county, to serve our communities and residents.”
