Residents in Carmarthenshire can have their say on the way the council allocates housing.

Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking residents' input on their approach to distributing social homes within the county.

On February 20, 2023, facing increased demand for social housing that outstrip supply, the council approved an Emergency Allocations Policy.

The Council is now seeking to formally adopt this new approach and wants residents' opinions on the changes of the Emergency Policy.

This revised policy includes modifications to the definition of urgent housing need and permits the Council to directly match suitable applicants to available homes.

The Council will prioritise allocations to those maintaining a community connection to a specific area.

In addition, the policy allows special registration for certain groups and needs six-monthly re-registrations.

Cllr Linda Evans Davies, cabinet member for homes said: "The Emergency Allocations Policy adopted last year has enabled the Council to provide suitable homes to those in greatest need more quickly than ever before.

"We are now seeking the views of residents to help shape the existing policy and make important updates to the way we allocate homes to those who need them most."

Residents can visit the council's website to share their views.
