Carmarthenshire MP Jonathan Edwards has applauded the Welsh Government's recent declaration regarding the highly anticipated Llandeilo bypass.

The announcement - on Thursday, February 29 - has sparked hope for residents weary of continued delays to the project.

Mr Edwards has championed the bypass following his initial election to Westminster in 2010.

The population of Llandeilo has been fighting for years due to the congestion caused by lorries on the main road as well as growing concerns about air pollution.

Mr Edwards said: "The people of Llandeilo have been let down many times in the past in relation to this project.

"The Welsh Government needs to be transparent about when we can expect spades in the ground.

"This is an issue I have been campaigning on since being elected almost 14 years ago and residents have been calling for a bypass for decades.

"The project is vital for the community and will make such a difference to the resident and businesses in the town."

Mr Edwards now seeks a firm timetable from Julie James MS, Welsh Government minister for climate change, to ease local apprehensions and has urged the Welsh Government to avoid duping citizens into believing this is merely an election tactic.
