A MAN has been jailed after assaulting a police officer and a healthcare support worker at hospital.

Niall Morgan, 24, of Jones Terrace in Glanamman, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court where he faced five offences.

Morgan was accused of assaulting a police officer and a healthcare support worker at Prince Philip Hospital on January 19.

It was also alleged that Morgan used threatening or abusive words or behaviour at the hospital on that date that was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The following day, Morgan was accused of assaulting a second police officer at Dafen Police Station, and was charged with criminal damage to a cell at the police station on January 21.

At Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on February 12, Morgan pleaded guilty to each of the five charges.

He was jailed for 22 weeks, running concurrently, for each of the assault of an emergency worker charges.

Morgan must pay £100 in compensation to both the healthcare support worker and the officer at Dafen Police Station, and £140 to Dyfed-Powys Police to cover the cost of the damage. He received no separate penalty for the threatening or abusive behaviour charge, and must also pay court costs of £85.
