SEVEN new flats could become available in Penygroes if plans are approved.

Plans have been submitted to Carmarthenshire County Council to convert Penygroes Congregational Chapel on Norton Road, Penygroes, into seven new flats.

The application was submitted by Daniel Davies of D.J & M.E Davies Rental to change the use of the building – which has been out of use for ‘a number of years’ – to a C3 class to then convert into seven flats.

In the application, Mr Davies highlights that the chapel was in use between 1916 and 2002 and that there is Calfaria Chapel also located in a separate area of the site which is the chapel currently being used by residents. This chapel is not involved in the plans.

The plans will see the surrounding area of the building untouched and treated as if it is a listed building, although it is not. This is due to its location and visibility from surrounding areas. It has also been designed ‘to respect the chapel’s historical use as a cemetery.’

There will be proposals for bike storage and encouragement to use the available public transport due to the number of facilities in walking distance and there are no plans for a car parking facility on the site.

The plans can be seen in full at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk/planningapplications and by searching for the reference PL/06099. Any comments relating to the application can be made via the above link, by emailing planningconsultations@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or by writing to Planning Services, Civic Offices, Crescent Road, Llandeilo, SA19 6HW.
