AN Ammanford store will be getting a makeover later this month!

Poundland has revealed that 11 of its former Wilko stores will be getting makeovers in 2024, with the Ammanford store on Carregaman Road being one of the first to be completed.

In 2023, Poundland took over a number of former Wilko stores after the family-run chain went into administration.

The Ammanford, Leigh and Peterlee stores will be the first to be completed, with work finished by January 27.

The work will vary in each store but it will provide the opportunity for the store to be the best and most up-to-date Poundland stores.

They will be offering a comprehensive range of items including chilled and frozen food and the latest clothing and homewares ranges from Pepco, Poundland’s parent company. This includes a larger baby and children’s clothing section and the introduction of the £3 meal deal to more stores.

The stores will get new signage and areas for staff would also be given a makeover.

Darren Kay, director of Poundland, said: “Customers have reacted positively to the re-opening of these former Wilko stores as Poundland in 2023, but as we said at the time, each were only beginning their Poundland journeys.

“Through this new investment, we’ll give each of these stores a top-to-bottom makeover to make them the best Poundland stores they can be.

“I’d like to thank customers for bearing with us as we make changes in these stores and we can’t wait to re-launch them over the next few weeks.”

The Ammanford Wilko store closed on September 27 for the final time, and opened as a Poundland store on October 28.

Alongside the Ammanford, Leigh and Peterlee stores (which are expected to have completed the makeover by January 27), the stores in Leicester, Chepstow, Worcester, Bicester, Greenock, Thornaby, Stevenage and Hull stores will be getting a makeover by February 3.
