A CAPEL Hendre man has been given a full-time job after impressing on two weeks of work experience.

Dafydd Saunders graduated from Swansea University in the summer with a first-class honours degree in accounting. He chose to focus on getting good results on his course and once finishing, he applied to the Ammanford Ashmole & Co office for work experience, which he carried out in July.

He has now started working full-time at the office as a trainee accountant. Dafydd said: “I’m very grateful to Ashmole & Co for giving me this opportunity and giving me positive feedback on my work as it makes me feel appreciated. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to help clients, whether that be financially through accounting work or through answering their queries.”

Dafydd is also studying for his ACCA exams to become a fully qualified accountant. His role as a trainee at present sees him prepare VAT returns and assist with preparing accounts, working with Quickbooks, Xero and Sage, as well as helping with client queries.

Laura Craddock, partner in Ashmole & Co’s Ammanford office, said: “Our apprenticeship scheme is giving Dafydd the practical skills and qualifications to eventually become a fully qualified accountant. He is being given the opportunity to experience a wide variety of client work and specialisms.

“I started with Ashmole & Co after I qualified from Cardiff University and I gained by ACCA qualifications through the firm and then worked hard to become a partner. The partners strongly believe it is important as a profession that we help to train the next generation of accountants.”

Ashmole & Co is keep to continue its apprenticeship scheme in 2024 and anyone interested in training – whether school, college or university graduates – can apply at https://www.ashmole.co.uk/english/about-us/job-vacancies/. They will be accepting application from those studying for their GCSEs, A-levels or degrees and those looking for a new career path in accountancy.

The apprenticeships include a fully-funded training package as well as the basic Ashmole & Co salary and will be expected to work full time on a permanent contract.
