FOURTEEN affordable homes could come to a Towy Valley location in a bid to satisfy the need for properties.

Carmarthenshire County Council had previously applied to build 12 affordable homes on land off Cilycwm Road, Llandovery. The land was previously home to Ysgol Pantycelyn’s playing fields but has been empty since the school was closed and merged with Tregib to form Ysgol Bro Dinefwr in 2016. The updated application is now for 14 properties.

In a planning statement on the council’s behalf, the housing need in Llandovery is shown with an average of 18.6 bids on each of eight lettings of two-bedroom bungalows since 2019, and an average of 34.6 bids on each of three lettings of two-bedroom homes since 2019. The statement also includes a comment that prior to the affordable housing need being identified through the data analysis, no low cost home ownership had been delivered in Llandovery or the surrounding wards.

In the plans, there will be three different types of houses as well as some flats. The details are: two, three-bedroom semi-detached houses, six two-bedroom semi-detached houses and two, two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows. There will also be four, one-bedroom flats.

Each of the two and three-bedroom properties will have two parking spaces whilst the flats will have one parking space per property.

All of the properties will have a private amenity space. The homes will be built from concrete roofing tiles with contrasting ridge tile roofs with the walls made of Staffordshire blue facing brickwork plinth, red brickwork on the ground floor, horizontal timber effect fibre cement cladding on the first floor with a ‘Cedral Lap’ wood effect, slate grey in colour and smooth sand and cement rendered finish to gable ends.

The windows, doors and patio doors will be made of composite timber which will be painted in an undisclosed colour and white UPVC double glazed units. The fascias and Soffits will also be made from white UPVC and the canopy will be white painted timber flat roof canopy with felt covering.

The build would not take up all of the land that previously housed the playing fields, with the remaining space kept as the unused fields.

The access point will be close to – if not the same as – the already placed dropped kerb and gated entrance at the western boundary of Cilycwm Road. The site is also located just 400m away from Llandovery railway station and the adjacent bus stop.
