THERE will be a special atmosphere in Cardiff this weekend as a rugby legend takes on a special challenge.

Former Leeds Rhinos rugby league player and current England rugby union coach Kevin Sinfield will be taking on his next fundraising challenge of running seven ultra marathons (27.2 miles) in seven days in seven different cities.

He will be starting on Friday, December 1, running from Leeds to York, before taking on the challenge in Cardiff on Saturday, December 2.

Kevin is aiming to finish the Cardiff run at half time of the United Rugby Championship match between Cardiff and the Scarlets at Cardiff Arms Park.

After that, he will do five more ultra marathons in five different UK and Ireland cities – London, Dublin, Brighton, Edinburgh and Birmingham.

The aim of his challenge is to raise awareness and money in support of people impacted by motor neurone disease. So far, he has raised more than £8 million after being inspired by his best friend and former teammate Rob Burrow in his battle with MND.

Kevin said: “It has been a great way of celebrating the MND community and celebrating Rob and showing people we care. The support we have had has been amazing.

“The plan is to run seven marathons, plus an extra mile each day, in seven different cities in the UK and Ireland across seven days.

“We are really looking forward to it; there are 100 reasons we shouldn’t go again, but there are 5,000 why we should, and the big reason is Rob.”

BusinessWaste.co.uk is a proud sponsor of the effort for the second year in a row and is calling on local businesses to get behind Kevin and donate to support the epic endurance challenge.

“The effort Kevin Sinfield and his team put into pushing themselves to the upper limit with these gruelling challenges to raise funds that support those living with MND and research into treatments and a cure is incredibly inspiring,” said David Adams, managing director of Business Waste.

Founder Mark Hall added: “We’re really proud to once again get behind such a wonderful awareness and fundraising cause.”
