A NEW tenant is being sought for a historic building in the Towy Valley.

National Trust Cymru is looking for someone who is passionate about heritage, people and the local landscape to take over the running of the Dolaucothi Arms in Pumsaint.

The trust is promoting the opportunity for the Grade II listed building at the heart of the village as an ‘open opportunity’ which means it could be continued to be used as a pub or as a new business.

The Dolaucothi Arms is nestled in a scenic 2,500-acre Dolaucothi Estate, less than half a mile away from the ancient Roman Dolaucothi Goldmines. Both the estate and goldmines are cared for by National Trust Cymru. There are also a number of woodland trails as well as parkland and a small caravan and motorhome park on the estate which attracts thousands of visitors each year.

The Dolaucothi Arms has three large, beautiful public rooms, four double en-suite bedrooms to let as well as tenant accommodation and a spacious car park. Parts of the white-washed building date back to the mid-18th century and there is a slate roof, stone flagging, chequered tile floors and log burner.

The large 1.26-acre garden overlooks the Cothi Valley and could be used to grow produce and champion sustainability.

Meg Anthony, the general manager for Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion for National Trust Cymru, said: “This is an exciting business opportunity in an enviable location in rural Wales. The welcoming space lends itself to multiple different uses, from gastropub or café to associated foody shop, retail business, learning or workshop space.

“We are open to fresh ideas to make the most of the potential of this place and would like to hear from those passionate about connecting people to local history, heritage and culture, now and into the future.

“We believe that people need historic, beautiful and natural places and we are looking for tenants who share our vision and values for the unique place.”

Anyone who has a vision for giving the building – which is next to the busy A482 and just eight miles from Lampeter and 13 miles from Llandeilo – a sustainable and bright future, including food and drink businesses or other businesses to apply.

The initial rental of the property is £6,000 per year (£500 per calendar month) plus VAT for the first two years.

An expression of interest application can be found at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wales/dolaucothi/historical-dolaucothi-arms-pub-to-let and must be returned to wa.tenantenquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk by December 11, 2023, with an outline of the vision and ideas.
