A TOWY Valley animal charity has received a £1,000 donation from an awards scheme.

Lluest Horse and Pony Trust in Llangadog is one of six charities in Wales to receive a £1,000 donation from the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards.

The charity rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes horses and ponies and relies on public donations and sponsorships to carry out its work.

The awards were decided by members of the public in Wales who were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts. More than 11,500 nominations were made, with more than 500 receiving votes.

The winners – a total of 150 across the UK – were picked at random from those that were nominated.

The other winners from Wales were Hedgehog Help Prestatyn, Swansea MAD, Menstrual Health Project, Welsh Housing Aid and Tenovus Cancer Care.

Mark Hews, Benefact Group’s group chief executive, said: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards. Benefact Group is the third largest corporate donor in the UK and has an ambition to be the biggest.

“Owned by a charity, all of its available profits go to good causes, and the more the group grows, the more the group can give. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”

It is the fifth year that the Movement for Good Awards has been running and more than £5m has been given to 2,500 charities during this period of time.

In 2023, a total of 420 charities will be given £1,000 donations through the Movement for Good Awards and 40 good causes will be given £5,000 in special grants throughout the year.
