PATIENTS in the Towy Valley will benefit from purpose cushions thanks to donations from the public.

Hywel Dda Health Charities – the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board – has bought a number of repose cushions with money donated by the public.

The cushions will be used by the community nursing team that supports patients across the Towy Valley.

The cushions are pressure relief cushions used on chairs and general purpose wheelchairs to provide relief and reduce the incidence of pressure injuries.

Sister Alison Wardrop, a junior district nurse, said: “We are so grateful to the patients and families whose donations have allowed us to purchase these repose cushions.

“Our nurses will now be able to offer the cushions to help alleviate pain and the discomfort of patients when sitting in chairs or wheelchairs for long periods of time.

"The cushions will also help to reduce the incidence and severity of pressure injuries in the local community.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
