A LOCAL pony club has qualified for a national competition.

The Amman Valley Pony Club as qualified for the Horse of the Year Show.

Six of the club’s young riders – Ava, Aiza, Sophie, Jayden, Tegan and Olivia – displayed ‘exceptional skill, dedication and teamwork’ to secure their spot in the event, said the club.

The riders are trained by Shelley Rice and Dione Walters and will be competing alongside five of the best teams in the UK for the British title and Prince Phillip Cup.

It is the first time that Amman Valley Pony Club has qualified for Horse of the Year Show since 1996 and the six riders will be flying the flag for Wales.

Ann Ivey, club district commissioner, said: “We are thrilled to have qualified for the Horse of the Year Show. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of our trainers and members.

“We are grateful for the support of our parents and the Amman Valley community that has rallied behind us. We cannot wait to represent Wales on the grand stage at HOYS, it really is the dream of every pony club member!”

The Amman Valley Pony Club has an inclusive and supportive community and has been the breeding ground for young riders who aspire to reach the highest levels of equestrian success. There is a focus on fostering a supportive and encouraging environment through training, competitions and educational opportunities for riders of all skills.
