A LLANDOVERY rugby player will face off against some of the best in the world after being picked to play against the Barbarians.

Wyn Jones, who plays prop for the Scarlets, will be starting in the Rest of the World XV that will play the invitational side at Twickenham on Sunday.

It is a boost for the prop after he missed out on selection for Wales’ World Cup training squad.

Wyn has won 48 caps for his country since his 2017 debut, scoring two tries.

Wyn will be joined by the likes of Israel Folau and Fraser Brown, while fellow Welsh internationals Elliot Dee and fellow Scarlets player Rhys Patchell will be among the replacements for the team.

They will face a Barbarians side led by Alun Wyn Jones, who recently announced his retirement from international rugby.

Also in the Barbarians squad will be fellow Welsh internationals Gareth Anscombe and Aaron Wainwright. Other notable names include Quade Cooper, Rob Simmons, Aaron Cruden and Francois Hougaard.

A spokesperson for the Scarlets said: "Congratulations to our Scarlets duo Wyn Jones and Rhys Patchell, who have been named in a stellar World XV squad to take on the Barbarians in the Killik Cup match at Twickenham Stadium.

"The pair are part of line-ups that are jam-packed with world-class talent, with internationals from England, Wales, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, Australia, Tonga, Japan, Scotland, Fiji and Italy all involved for the blockbuster clash.

"The squads contain a total of 1,286 international caps between them – with 650 for the Barbarians and 636 for the World XV – as well as Rugby World Cup winners, British & Irish Lions tourists, and several returning Barbarians.

"It's a great honour for both Scarlets players".
