SOME of south Wales’ most talented ceramicists will be Carmarthenshire next month.

They will be visiting Llanarthney’s National Botanic Garden of Wales for a special exhibition.

The exhibition will see 25 potters exhibit their work in the Great Glasshouse at the gardens. It is organised by South Wales Potters and called Ceramica Botanica.

The work on display will range from gas-fired raku vases to delicate porcelain mugs, jewellery and much more on display, as well as available for purchase.

There will also be workshops to allow attendees to have a go at creating pottery on a potter’s wheel, building clay figures and experimenting with decoration techniques such as sgraffito.

Adrian Munday, treasurer of South Wales Potters, said: “It’s rare to see a handful of potters together in one place – let alone 25 – so we are very excited for this event, which will really show visitors how diverse and fascinating the art of pottery can be.

"We have a full schedule of workshops taking place throughout the weekend for anyone who wants to give pottery a go, and for those who’d rather look but not touch, there will be plenty to see.

“The Great Glasshouse is an iconic structure – the biggest of its kind in the world – and we couldn’t ask for a more beautiful backdrop for a pottery exhibition. We hope visitors enjoy the event.

More people than ever are taking an interest in clay and pottery, with The Great Pottery Throwdown series bringing pottery to thousands more people.

Ceramica Botanica will take place at the Great Glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4. For more information, visit www.botanicgarden.wales/visit/whats-on/event/ceramica-botanica
