WITH the Urdd Eisteddfod coming to Llandovery later this month, a number of roads will have reduced speed limits.

This is, according to Carmarthenshire County Council, to ensure the safety of visitors as there will be an increased number of visitors to the area.

The following roads will be reduced to 20mph for the duration of the festival:

  • A40 trunk road from its junction with the Principal Road A4069 for a distance of 630 metres in an easterly direction and from its junction with the Principal Road A4069 for a distance of 890 metres in a general northerly direction.
  • A483 trunk road from its junction with the Principal Road A4069 for a distance of 600 metres in a general north-easterly direction.
  • A4069 Principal Road from its junction with the A40 trunk road for a distance of 230 metres in a south-westerly direction.
  • The entire length of Dingat Close.
  • The entire length of Lon Rhys Pritchard.
  • The entire length of Gasworks Lane.
  • The entire length of Dingat View.
  • The entire length of Rock Villas.
  • The entire length of Maes Y Coleg.
  • The entire length of Garden Lane.
  • The entire length of Stone Street.
  • The entire length of Market Square.
  • The entire length of Castle Street.
  • The entire length of Water Street.
  • The entire length of Swan Terrace (north).
  • The entire length of Gelli Deg.
  • The entire length of Orchard Street.
  • The entire length of Queen Street.
  • The entire length of Maesglas.
  • The entire length of Adelaide Street.
  • The entire length of Victoria Street.
  • The entire length of Victoria Crescent.
  • The entire length of Former Ysgol Rhys Pritchard (layby).
  • Church Bank from its junction with Gasworks Lane for a distance of 170 metres in a south-westerly direction.
  • Cilycwm Road from its junction with the A483 trunk road for a distance of 1.685 kilometres in a northerly direction.
  • Class III road from Llandovery to Dolauhirion Bridge from its junction with the A40 trunk road for a distance of 1.5 kilometres in a northerly direction.
  • Dolauhirion Bridge from its junction with the Class III Cilycwm Road to the east of Dolauhirion Bridge for a distance of 245 metres in a westerly direction.
  • Bridge Street from its junction with the A40 trunk road for a distance of 140 metres in a southerly direction.

The following will be lowered to 30mph for the duration:

  • A40 trunk road from a point 40 metres southwest of the centre of the junction with the Class III Road adjacent to the property known as Bryndeilog and known as Heol Rhos for a distance of 460 metres in a general south-westerly direction.

A number of roads will also have temporary bans on vehicles stopping along the roads for the duration. The roads are:

  • A40 trunk road from its junction with the A4069 Principal Road in an easterly direction to its junction with Orchard Street and from its junction with the A4069 Principal Road in a general northerly direction to its junction with the Class III Road known as Heol Rhos.
  • A483 trunk road from its junction with the A40 trunk road in a general north-easterly direction to its junction with Llanfair Hill.
  • A4069 Broad Street from a point 50 metres southwest of the centre of its junction with Heol Pluguffan in a north-easterly direction to its junction with the A40 trunk road.
  • Cilycwm Road from its junction with the A483 trunk road for a distance of 1.68 kilometres in a northerly direction.
  • Class III Road from Llandovery to Dolauhirion Bridge from its junction with the A40 trunk road for a distance of 250 metres in a northerly direction.

The ban on vehicles stopping does not apply to vehicles being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes, being used for postal collection or delivery or being used for the collection of household refuse from premises adjacent to the lengths of road.

It also does not apply to any vehicles waiting while barriers or gates at the entrance of premises which the vehicle is accessing or has come from is opened or closed, if it is not reasonably practical to wait on another part of road where the ban is not in place. It also does not apply to vehicles waiting when the person in control of the vehicle is required by law to stop or is obliged to stop to avoid an accident or must stop due to circumstances out of their control.

The Welsh Government granted permission for all the above temporary changes which will come into effect on Friday, May 26 and will last until midnight on Sunday, June 4.
