Head coach Ioan Cunningham and skipper Hannah Jones - both former pupils at Amman Valley Comprehensive School - heaped praise on Wales' pack for their tireless work after wins against Ireland and Scotland.

For the second year running Wales have picked up maximum points from their opening two games but look far better equipped to back up a promising start after the fallow week, something they failed to do 12 months ago.

For head coach Cunningham, the grit and guts shown by his front five has been a vital component of their early success, with the front row of Gwenllian Pyrs, Kelsey Jones and Sisilia Tuipulotu all coming off in the final minute of the 34-22 win over Scotland.

"The front five have been excellent, especially Sisilia Tuipulotu," he said.

"She's been awesome in the first two games and given us front-foot ball and the opportunity to go forward and play through teams.

"I'm very proud of everyone. Credit to Scotland, they came back at us and scored some nice tries. To stay in that and score at the end was pleasing. It was an arm wrestle."

Ahead of the visit of England to Cardiff Arms Park on 15 April in Round 3, Cunningham is looking to sharpen up his side’s discipline, with 29 penalties conceded across the first two matches.

A yellow card to centre Kerin Lake on the stroke of half-time against Scotland could well have proved costly, but Cunningham’s side were let off the hook by the home side, who failed to convert from close range on two occasions.

"We have to look at our discipline," said Cunningham.

"Looking at the type of penalties we’ve given away, a lot of them were around the breakdown – tackling or rolling – so those are the little things we'll have to focus on as we move forward."

That said there was plenty for Cunningham to smile about, with his side crossing on five occasions for the second week running.

In Edinburgh, four of the five scores came from props with Tuipulotu and Pyrs both registering doubles as Wales beat Scotland for the 15th time in 17 matches in the Championship.

"I'm not sure the backs are too happy," joked Cunningham, on the try-scoring exploits of his props.

"It doesn’t matter who scores really, they help us win games."

Centre and captain Hannah Jones was in agreement with the Wales boss and says the two units are working in tandem to great effect.

"Our front five were absolutely outstanding again," she said.

"Sisilia Tuipulotu brought momentum, those carries really helped us as a backline. The front-foot ball we had was absolutely amazing.

"Two five-point wins definitely helps momentum so we’ll regroup, recover and focus on our work-ons so we are ready to go into the next game."

Tighthead Tuipulotu swooped the Player of the Match award for the second week running and is quickly becoming the emerging star of this year's TikTok Women’s Six Nations.

Still only 19, Tuipulotu, says she is growing in confidence and stature with each Test appearance.

"My strength has given me confidence but I couldn’t do this without my teammates," said the eight-cap star.

"They push me to become stronger and to do what I do best.

"The coaches that I have allow me to be the best I can. The more I believe in myself that I can do it, the more my scrums and set-piece are going well so I just have to believe in myself and know that my teammates are behind me."

Six Nations Rugby, the official organising body responsible for the TikTok Women's Six Nations, broke all fan engagement records in 2022 and highlighted its commitment to giving the women's game the best possible platform to grow.
