Benefit claimant figures in Carmarthenshire have fallen by an encouraging 16 per cent since this time last year.

And as spring approaches, the county’s three Jobcentres county are reaching out to those looking to re-join the jobs market – whether they are single parents, young people, over 50 or have a health condition.

Regular job fairs and related activities are being held by Jobcentre advisors, while jobseekers are reminded there are thousands of jobs on offer on the DWP FindaJob service on Gov.Uk

In March, Teachers Active held a recruitment event at Carmarthen Jobcentre with the support of DWP staff. The event was held to fill teaching assistant and caretaker vacancies available throughout Carmarthenshire schools, and to hold interviews.

Amongst other companies being offered support are:

  • Jones Login, seeking to fill their coach and minibus driver vacancies
  • Wetherspoon’s, recruiting kitchen, bar and cleaning staff
  • Coffee #1, Carmarthen, looking for a part-time barista and a cleaning operative
  • Ivy Bush Hotel, which aims to recruit a full time receptionist.
  • Carmarthenshire County Council, recruiting for a waste and recycling Officer.

Transport for Wales have asked Carmarthen Jobcentre to help them with their latest recruitment for four full time customer hosts in the rail industry, based in the Carmarthen area.

In Ammanford Jobcentre, DWP staff have been supporting Eco Roof Solutions, a green infrastructure company, as they are looking to recruit two full time labourers.

In Llanelli Jobcentre, DWP staff are currently supporting Bouygues, the construction group, who are seeking to recruit a site receptionist/administrator for the new Pentre Awel project in Llanelli.

Ammanford Jobcentre staff continue to support 50+ customers with the ‘No Desire to Retire’ sessions.

The six-week employability course is aimed to enhance 50+ customers' skills, apply for jobs and promote local live vacancies. It is also aimed to support customers overcome barriers in relation to health conditions and offer advice with private, state and pension credits.

Recently Team Precision In Capel Hendre, near Ammanford, had announced the possibility of closure. This resulted in the redundancy of 16 employees. These employees were offered redundancy support by DWP and Careers Wales and this support will continue to be in place.
