The Met Office has issued a weather warning of heavy rain for the Amman, Towy, Gwendraeth and Swansea Valleys for today (Wednesday, December 28).

The weather warning lasts from 2am this morning until mid-afternoon.

A series of flood alerts have been issued as heavy rain sweeps into Wales, including the Rivers Loughor and Amman, Upper Tawe and River Neath.

Natural Resources Wales listed more than a dozen amber "be prepared" alerts over Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning (28 December).

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “Heavy rain may lead to some disruption. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely. Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.

“Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.”

A few places could get 40 to 60mm (1.5 to 2.3in) of rain in nine to 12 hours, before clearing in the afternoon.

BBC Weather has reported: "It will be dull and wet initially this afternoon, but the rain will clear away through the day, with some bright spells developing. A windy day with strong gusts.

"Tonight, there will be a mixture of patchy cloud, clear spells and blustery showers drifting in from the west. Showers may become rather frequent and heavy at times.

"Tomorrow, further blustery showers will drift in from the west. However, there will be spells of sunshine in between. Another windy day."
