COMMUNITY groups will be able to make use of larger donations from a Welsh homebuilder.

Persimmon Homes has donated more than £1.5 million to charities, sports clubs and good causes including Pontarddulais CC in the last two years.

The funds' successful organisations have received in the past was £1,000 but the community champions scheme is now increasing this amount to £6,000.

Each of the 30 local Persimmon businesses will donate £6,000 every three months.

Liam Scott, regional chairman for Persimmon in Wales, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have helped hundreds of charities, local community groups and sports clubs across Wales because we know what valuable work they do.

“These organisations are increasingly being asked to do even more or help more and more people. We want to ensure that work can continue, and this is why we are increasing the amount of money available from £1,000 to £6,000.

“Persimmon is committed to leaving a positive lasting legacy in the communities in which we work, and as well as building good quality homes and creating well-paid high-skilled jobs, we know that community champions helps those organisations who are the lifeblood of our communities.

“We know our donations make a real difference and we’d strongly encourage any local charity in need of support to apply to community champions to see if we can help.”
