A photograph circulating on social media has caused outrage after it appeared to depict 'a CCTV camera looking into a toilet cubicle' at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman.

The photograph was shared via Facebook on Thursday, December 1, with the school responding by saying that no CCTV cameras point into or monitor the inside of toilet cubicles.

Many people raised concerns about the image, with former pupils and parents stating that there should not be cameras in the toilets at all, and that it was "invasion of privacy."

One comment from Shauna-Marie Davies said: "CCTV shouldn't be in toilets anyways, but I do kind of agree with CCTV being in the unisex toilets in the maths block if it's still there.”

Others said that it was not the only instance of a camera being in the toilets at the school, with cameras also being present in the toilets in the maths, English and science blocks.

Others debated as to whether the object in the picture was a CCTV camera at all, or a vape-detecting machine.

A spokesperson from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman said: “It has been brought to the school's attention that an image depicting what appears to be a CCTV camera looking into a toilet cubicle has been shared via social media.

“We can confirm that no CCTV cameras point into or monitor the inside of toilet cubicles.

“There are fixed cameras, that do not swivel, placed within communal areas of toilets, such as sink areas, and this is to monitor appropriate use and ensure a safe environment for all learners.”
