Swansea City legend Lee Trundle has avoided a driving ban after he was caught speeding on the Newtown bypass – partly because it would affect his role an ambassador for the club.
The former Swans striker was caught doing 72 miles per hour in his Mercedes-Benz E Class saloon on the Upper Dolfor Road section of the bypass on March 14 this year.
Llanelli Magistrates' Court decided on Wednesday (November 23) that the Ammanford AFC footballer would not get a totting disqualification, but he did receive three points on his driver's licence and ordered to pay £374 in court costs and fines.
A solicitor acting for the ex-Wrexham, Bristol City and Leeds United player argued that a driving ban would "impact those around him" and his role as an ambassador for Swansea City AFC. Court records stated that a ban would have implications on the work he does with the community hub, schools and charities.
The 46-year-old, who lives in the Neath area, near Swansea, was fined £230 for the speeding offence, and ordered to pay £110 in court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The Liverpool-born forward enjoyed success in the lower divisions with Wrexham and two spells as a player at Swansea where he scored 91 goals in 194 appearances. Bristol City then signed Trundle from Swansea City for £1 million in August 2007.
In September, Trundle said it was a "massive honour" to be named Swansea City AFC Foundation’s Premier League Community Captain and was recognised with an award presented by former Wales captain Ashley Williams for his work with the local community over the past decade.
