The latest employment facts and statistics have been published for both Wales and Carmarthenshire.

Nationally, in Wales:

  • The number of people employed is at 1.448 million
  • The employment rate (16-64) is at 72.3 per cent
  • The number of people unemployed is at 55,000 - down 3,000 on the year
  • The unemployment rate is at 3.7 per cent
  • The number of people in workless households has fallen since April to June 2010 by 92,000

In Carmarthenshire, through the three Jobcentres in Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli, DWP continues to support many local and national employers in a variety of sectors.

The latest figures show there is a reduction of 24 per cent in the number of Carmarthenshire benefit claimants since this time last year.

Ammanford Jobcentre Plus has recently been working with Tycroes Supermarket, Quinshield building manufacturers, Zoo Brew Microbrewery, and Ameanah’s restaurant in helping fill their vacancies. 

Ammanford Jobcentre has also been supporting the manufacturers Pullmaflex and Team Precision with their recruitment.

A cost-of-living event was held on Wednesday, October 26 in Ammanford Jobcentre. This event will be held every six weeks moving forward for support.

On the same day, Carmarthen Jobcentre plus hosted their Autumn Jobs Fair which was attended by Welsh Ambulance Service, McDonalds, Bluestone National Park Resort, Sofidel UK, CSA Recruitment, Pobl GroupProspero Teaching, Luxury Lodges, Coleg Sir Gar, Dunbia and Avon UK.

Also cross the county, Carmarthen Jobcentre plus hosted Wales Ambulance Service with their 999 Careers event for call handlers.

Within the last weeks, Llanelli Jobcentre launched the ‘Provider health hub’. This consists of local and national health-based provision attending the Llanelli Jobcentre on a timetable throughout the week.

The providers include Links, Salvation Army, Versus Arthritis and various others.

Minister for Employment, Guy Opperman MP, said: “Whilst these figures are encouraging, we recognise that families are facing rising prices and employers need support to fill vacancies with a reliable workforce.

“Our priority will always be to support the most vulnerable and we recognise that people are struggling with rising prices, which is why we are protecting millions of those most in need with at least £1,200 of direct payments.”
