After six months of building work in the centre of Cross Hands, the newly completed Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses has opened on Carmarthen Road.

The project, on the site of the former auction house, was built entirely through voluntary contributions and through volunteers.

Some of the 300 volunteers who worked over 115 days, totalling 31,000 hours of work, came from as far away as Essex, Newcastle and Aberdeen.

Many features were installed to the building, such as a new flood defence system throughout the hall and the accompanying car park, as well as a heat loss and clean air system, along with 35,000 paving bricks laid.

After the six months were complete and the Kingdom Hall was up, an open day was held for the public on Saturday, October 1, where people saw the completed building and met with many of the volunteers.

A spokesperson from the new Cross Hands Kingdom Hall said: “The building project has attracted a lot of positive attention locally over the last six months since building work began.

“Many locals have commented on the number of workers there of different ages, both men and women along with the atmosphere of the building site being very different to other construction sites they’ve seen.

“Many local residents enjoyed seeing the project (on the open day), received a warm welcome and learnt what the Kingdom Hall will be used for.”
