A UK Parliamentary Motion held earlier this week congratulated many local cricket clubs, including Ammanford, Llanwrda and Wildboar Centurions.

Jonathan Edwards, MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, made an Early Day Motion at UK Parliament to highlight the success of the local cricket clubs.

In Parliament, Early Day Motions are statements of opinions from MPs, which are heavily used to congratulate and note local achievements across the UK. Other Members of Parliament can then support the motions.

Jonathan Edwards’ parliamentary motion read:

“This house congratulates Ammanford Cricket Club on winning the 2022 South Wales Cricket Association 20/20 Cup; recognises the success of Llanwrda Cricket Club in winning the division three championship of the South Wales Cricket Association League; further congratulates the Wildboar Centurions Cricket Club on winning the division seven title; acknowledges the achievements of Llandeilo, Penygroes, Dafen, Llanelli, Llangennech, Felinfoel, Cydweli, Drefach, Bronwydd, Carmarthen Wanderers, Pontyberem and Llandysul Cricket Clubs during the season; and welcomes that the great sport of cricket is flourishing in the county of Carmarthenshire.”

Speaking after the motion, Jonathan Edwards said: “I wanted to congratulate the local teams on their successes. We have a proud cricket heritage in Carmarthenshire.

“We are all proud of Ammanford Cricket Club and what they have done over the years to put the town on the map, and we also have numerous other teams performing well in the South Wales leagues and giving opportunities to local people to play cricket.

“We are a sporting county and these clubs bind our communities together. So I am always happy to promote their successes and achievements in Parliament.”
